Geothermal Heating and Cooling - 1994

Did you know that the Haverhill Public Library has a geothermal heat pump system for heating and cooling? A study by CDH Energy gives many technical details.

Read more about it in this April 1994 news story (scanned image) and in this March 2007 story.

Wind Generator - 2006

Covanta Energy in Haverhill has installed a 10kW BWC Excel wind generator made by Bergey  Windpower Company. The engineering for the installation was performed by Bergman and Associates of Haverhill. Although they have worked on wind projects all over the US, this was the first such installation in Haverhill. Hopefully there are more to come.

WXRV - The River
Solar Photovoltaic - 2007

In The ‘River’ runs green — and it’s not alone, Boston Globe correspondent Clea Simon writes about the 20 photo-voltaic solar panels installed by Haverhill’s WXRV radio station:

Local radio is going green. “The River,” WXRV-FM (92.5), took the first step on July 31. That’s when the Haverhill-based station switched on its 20 rooftop solar panels, which are now providing roughly enough energy to power the station’s main studio.

The panels provide roughly enough power to run the main studio. Operations Manager Ron Bowen has brought recycling and other green initiatives to WXRV.

Solar Photovoltaic - FUTURE

From the Renewable Energy Trust division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative:

"A 6 kW solar PV system and energy efficiency improvements will benefit over 11,000 Haverhill senior citizens. The project will include a data display for educational purposes and will reduce the building's electricity needs by 13%."
